Key problem with US is that most of US Media is a right-wing (LYING) machine
1st, what does right-wing Media mean? It means reporting, to be more exact fabricating, the News to benefit the Rich, Big corporations, Military Industrial complex (aka War profiteers) and Israel and the HEK with the truth and American People (Middle class).
And it also means reporting rubbish to dumb down the People as much as possible, such as repeating ad nauseam stories about the "Balloon Boy..", "Preacher in Florida burning Koran..", "Charlie Sheen..", "Palin emails being released.." etc. total waste of time.
1st, some Examples of what a right-wing (LYING machine) US Media is
1- Do we have Universal Nationalized Health Care (NHS) as they have in EVERY European nation, Canada, Japan, Israel, ect.? NO. In fact only USA and some failed states like Sudan, Somalia, etc. do not have something as essential as NHS. WHY? Because our right-wing Media (which means LYING for the benefit of Big Pharma, Big insurance, etc.) for too long, and amazingly still now, are calling NHS to be "Socialism", which is complete brain washing non-sense, since the way that NHS is operated in UK, Canada, Germany, France, etc. are the SAME WAY that we operate the US Military, Police, Fire dept. etc. which means on Socialized basis. - More on this here.
2- Do we have liberal labor laws as they have in European nations, such as by LAW you are entitled to 6 to 8 weeks paid Vacations as they have in all European countries? NO. Do we have generous Unemployment benefits as in typical European Country where Unemployment benefits are at about 80% of your salary from which you were laid off? NO. Astonishingly the Unemployment benefits in USA are Capped at about the pathetic amount of about $250 per Week!
3- Do we have Universal Education, which means you can go to college pretty much for free, as they have pretty much in all European nations, China, Japan, etc.? NO.
4- Are we engaged in one Unnecessary War after another, wasting Trillions of Dollars of our money (Taxes)? YES. In fact since WWII US has NOT been engaged in a War somewhere in the World for ONLY less than 5 years.
5- Which one of the US Media sources called the Vietnam War, Iraq war, etc. an Unnecessary War leading to these Wars and after the start of these Wars ran daily reporting calling for their immediate End? Just about NONE.
6- Are the US Media calling for Cuts in US Military budget given how badly US economy is doing and given the FACT that US Military is Gargantuan beyond any measure. NO. On that note, US Military budget is almost as large as the Military budget of all other countries on PLANET Earth COMBINED, while today US economy is not NOT even 15% of world economy. 7- When Republicans and Republicrats, claim that they are worried about the Deficits, who in US Media says: "Really! You are worried about the Deficits? Then FOR EXAMPLE how about closing the US Military bases in Europe and STOP spending $100Bill of American Tax payers money PER YEAR on these bases in Europe? Given the FACT that European Union is now much richer than the American Union now as you can see from Euro being MUCH MORE valuable than the US Dollar, or simply given the FACT that EU is a $16T economy vs US being a $14T economy, so if Europeans really wanted more on defense then they would spend more on defense. Instead Europeans are spending on Universal Nationalized Health Care, Universal Education, on Renewable Energy based Public Transportation, etc. investments in their countries and people." 8- Do we give our citizens Liberal laws such as night clubs can stay open as long as they want to, as they do in all European cities until the Sun comes up. NO.

How the Right-wing lying Media is the Key problem
So the Key problem with US (economy & nation) is that nothing really changes in US, that is Republicans and Democrats, pretty much engage in the same right-wing, war-mongering & fear-mongering, policies once in Power as you can see by Obama/Dems pretty much doing the same as Bush Admin. All of which problems are possible because 99% of US Media is right-wing.
The above assertion, of course, should be self evident, to a great extent, given the FACT that it takes 100s of Millions of Dollars to Billions of Dollars to launch and operate a Big Media out-let, such as a TV Network, Radio Station, News Papers, Magazines, etc. AND NO ONE but the Super rich and the Big corporations, those who can afford to also pay 100s of Millions of Dollars to lobbyist in Washington, has access to Billions of Dollars. That is obviously no Middle class or small business has access to Billions of Dollars to launch a Big Media outlet. So the statement that 99% of US Media is right-wing, which means it frames and fabricates the news for the benefit of Rich and Big corporations, is a FACT based on the FACT that NO ONE but Rich and Big corporations has access to the kind of capital needed to launch and operate a Big Media out-let, whether Talkradio, CableTV, News papers, etc.
Although now a days, since the Advent of the Internet it is possible to launch and operate a Web site, which is a sort of a media outlet, with much less money, and that is why the Big (right-wing) Media has not been able to get away with their LIES as they used to before the advent of the World Wide Web and of course this is where you are able to read this Article and Articles like this. But lets not kid ourselves, 1st the reach of the Web is far lower than then rich of the broadcast TV or Radio and more importantly it still takes 10s of Millions of Dollars to effectively market and announce a Web site.
Differences
To be exact US Media ranges from the Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media, such as Talkradio, Fox Network, to the Ultra Right-wing Media, such as Wall Street Journal, CNBC to merely right-wing Media which is CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc. And here is one of the Ultimate Con Jobs that they have played (on the American people) to get away with the above sham, the Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media calls the Right-wing Media as being "Lefty" and "Liberal".
Now to be sure there are some differences between the Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media and Right-wing Media, but those differences are about marginal issues at best, they are for show, they are just to get the uneducated to hate and blame someone else than the Big corporations and the Rich for what is so wrong with US economy, which are due to our Taxes wasted on Unnecessary Wars, a Gargantuan Military and not invested in our People & Cities - more on this later. So to be more precise for example there are the following differences between the Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media (i.e, Talkradio, Fox, etc.) and the Right-wing Media (i.e., CNN, ABC, etc.):
Right-wing Media is for Gay marriage, whereas Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media is not.
Right-wing Media is not, overtly anymore, for Torture, whereas Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media is for Torture.
Right-wing Media is for Gay's in Military, whereas Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media is not.
Right-wing Media is for allowing flag burning as a freedom of speech, whereas Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media is not.
etc. etc.
So there are differences between the Right-wing Media and the Ultra Lunatic Right-wing Media, as per above examples, on hot button issues that do not affect 99% of Americans but are for show, however on real issues, which means what happens to 99% of American people's Taxes, there is NO real difference between them.
And to be even more exact there is like 4 hours of not right-wing Media on all of US Media, them being: 1 Hour Oberman, 1 Hour Maddow, 1 Hour Ed show, Half an hour Daily Show. That is just about it. And even the above 4 sources will never criticize Israeli actions or call for cutting US Military budget down to be in line with the size of the US economy compared World economy, etc.
Why the lies?
You may be asking why is the entire US Media right-wing? That is reporting the news, or making the news, for the benefit of the above 4 Groups but acting and lying that it is reporting the real News for the benefit of the real People?
The answer should be quite obvious: Money and thus control, and we are talking about Trillions of Dollars of American Tax payers money, every year.
To be exact by these lies they are protecting and benefiting their own, which means the Billionaire clubs that owns the US Media. So by these lies, such as:

1- Paying Taxes is Capitalism,
2- Getting something for your Taxes, such as Universal Health Care or Universal Education, is Socialism

Net Result of the lies?
Of course the number 1 Net result of the lies by the right-wing Media in US is to effectively steal Trillions of Dollars of American Tax payers money, for the benefit of the above 4 Groups, but there are other related purposes, they are:
Control: That is by having sold American People the non-sense that "Government cannot do anything..", which means you the People cannot do anything..., then they have removed Power from the People and moved it into the hands of the Big Corporations and the Super rich, that control the US Media. Thereby rather than the People, via their representatives, the Government deciding what happens to their Taxes, to their Lives, the Big Corporations, the Super rich and Israel decide what happens to the Peoples Taxes (aka Lives).
Some of the Key requirements for keeping Control of the People, beside lying such lies that "Government cannot do anything...., only Market economy (aka Big corporations) can do things....", is to keep People afraid, so that they have as little time to focus on what the real problems are. And of course you need a right-wing Media to continuously scare people with fear of this and fear of that, for example:
I mean just think about it: for 30 years American people were told by the ENTIRE US MEDIA that "Communism was hell bent on taking over the Word..." that "Communism would never leave a country on its own but only through force of (US) arms.." that "Communism was the reason we needed to have the largest Military in the World, because it is going to get us if we do not...."
Well Communism went away by itself, Communism left the countries were it was the Government without any Military assault by US forces and peacefully, Communism did not get us. So did our right-wing Media say "Hey, sorry for all the fear-mongering that we engaged in about"? NO. Did our Government then cut the size of US Military by 30 or 50% since there was NO threat of "Communism...is going to get us"? NO. They created a new "fear-mongering.." reasons to keep and actually vastly increase the size of US Military budget. So rather than focusing the attention and capital of American people on were the real problem is, which is lack of Universal Health Care in US, lack of Universal Education in US, which leads to despair in this country for too many, which has lead to the near collapse of US economy. So what "fear-mongering.." reason did the US Media co-opt for rather than cutting the US Military and investing those savings in American people & cities? They 1st created "Sadam Hussein.." as the reason for not cutting the US Military and instead increasing it, they actually would say, with a straight face that "Iraq under Sadam Hussein has the 3rd largest Military in the World!" A non-sense and lie which is not even worth responding to. Then they created this utter non-sense about we are fighting "Alqaeda", and that is why we need this massive Military budget! Really?

Today is Nov/29/12 and again this article could not be more on target. That is today: "Palestinians win implicit U.N. recognition of sovereign state" yet almost ALL Republicans & Democrats oppose something so basic & right toward peace by actually saying with a straight face that: "this will derail peace" So Just think: "193-nation U.N. General Assembly on Thursday overwhelmingly approved the de facto recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine" while in USA Republican lunatics & HOAX Democrats almost totally together oppose this passage of basic rights for Palestinan people. Just think Republican lunatics & HOAX Democrats do not agree on anything for American people but they 100% TOGETHER agree for whatever Israel wants! What other proof do you need that the Wall Street gang, aka Israeli Lobby, via their control of US Media TOTALLY controls our Government. After years of frustration with this Author I never thought I would see the day that I would agree with him on anything. The statement above is as real as it can get. China will get the mining rights to Afghanistan. China will also get the oil reserves from Iraq even after our blow hard government said it would be used to pay back war debts. The Iraqis are already negotiating with foreign firms to develop more oil reserves. The US is for the most part left out of the story. GTF out of the middle east and stay out. Related to this article, did you read that: "US Official Says Iran Becoming a Pariah State" How is it that Iran having nuclear weapon make it a "Pariah State" but Israel, US, UK having nuclear weapons do not become "Pariah States"! Best way to have regime change in Iran, that is stop it form being a Islamic based state, is to stop supporting Israel which is also a religous based (Jewish) based state. We as Americans if we want to lead need to lead by example, which is just as we find it abhorent from having a religous based state in US as that would be absolutely counter to any claim of Demcracy similarly we will NOT support and in fact will oppose any other State which is a religous based state, be it Islamic based Iran or Jewish based Israel.
